summer's last gifts

I am still completely in awe that such little seeds dropped in the dirt months ago...can turn into this. (Especially to those of you who know that I can't keep ANY plant alive!) Simple pleasures.

Enjoy the long weekend!

blonde jokes

So...evidently, Young Boy is learning about Blonde Jokes in the 5th grade. Last night, he says, "Mom, I have kind of an inappropriate joke, but it's funny...want to hear?"

There was a blonde girl who got a zebra for a pet.
She named it Spot.

Uncontrollable laughter ensued.

a free morning & 35 cents

Hit a few garage sales yesterday morning...just as I was getting discouraged, I spied a 1950's blank recipe book (that I bought just for the vintage lined paper inside, for a quarter!), a red & white gingham tray (TEN cents!) and a Miracle Whip jar filled with wooden checker pieces (with CROWNS on them...5 cents!) Crazy that such little finds can make a soul so happy!

Later last night, I was paging through the book and found the real treasure...ONE hand-written recipe...

ox roast saturday

So this weekend...what a weekend. An annual tradition at our church, the Ox Roast & Auction. My sister & I volunteered to coordinate the Silent Auction. Some 45 baskets & packages later, we were ready. Everything from golf packages (9 of 'em!) to Starbucks to family fun & game baskets...there was something for everyone, that's for sure.

The real draw to this local event is the Roast Beef and German Potato Salad. God bless the church ladies. This is serious German food.

My sister's purchase at the live auction. Antique dishes that belonged to a church member's grandmother.

My purchase. A quilt that my neighbor made & handquilted ("all from scraps that I picked up at yard sales.") Had to have it...it's a work of art, truly.

Another item that I loved. A print that had The Lord's Prayer and The 10 Commandments in German. The artwork is so pretty! My DAD purchased it (kindly, after I stopped bidding.)

Definitely some treasures to be had.

Can't wait for some more of that German Potato Salad next year!

ahhh, saturday...

A sunny early morning at the farmers' market in town...

everything was looking so yummy today!

The snapdragons remind me of playing in Grandma's garden when I was little...we loved to pluck off the blossoms and pinch them open & closed, open & closed...

Enjoy the weekend!
